Clark receives a prophetic phone call from Lana. Adam escapes and Lionel reveals a shocking secret.

What's up with Clark: Pete and Clark volunteer at a crisis hotline at the Smallville community center. When Clark answers a call, he hears a frantic Lana on the line. She tells him "it's happening" and begs him to help her. Clark hears a gunshot and Lana falls to the ground. Clark runs to the Talon, but when he arrives, he finds Lana, alive and well, studying with Chloe. The sheriff thinks it's just a prank call, but Clark and Lana disagree. While listening to a recording of the call, Clark's super hearing picks up Adam's voice. He uses a computer program to isolate it and plays it for Chloe and Lana. The three then also hear a radio in the background; it's broadcasting a basketball game that won't be played until later that night.

What's up with Lex: Lex brings a vial of the platelets to Lionel and tells him he knows about the lab and the research. He threatens to release the information to the press, but he tells Lionel he doesn't want the research shut down, he wants to be put in charge of it.

What's up with Adam: Lionel heads to the lab and tells Dr. Teng that everything must be moved immediately. When he leaves she tells Adam that Lionel took all the serum and she can't take him with her. Without the serum he only has 12 hours to live. Later, Clark tells Lex he knows about Lex's involvement with the lab and that in order to save Lana they must find Adam. When the two arrive, the lab is in shambles, and all the lab technicians along with Dr. Teng are dead. Adam is gone!

What's up with Lana: Events are starting to unfold. The basketball game starts, the storm that was heard over the phone has arrived, and Lana is scared. Clark tells her she'll be safe at the farm and she waits there with Mr. Kent.

How it ends: Clark and Lex are about to continue their search for Adam when Metropolis detectives show up at the mansion and hold them for questioning. Lex is being set up for the murders at the lab. Adam takes Chloe hostage and learns that Lana's at the farm. When they pull up, he knocks out Mr. Kent and grabs Lana. He takes her to the storage facility where she locked up the things he left in his apartment, but the serum he had is gone. When he turns his anger towards Lana, she's able to knock him down and run off.

Meanwhile, Clark is finally allowed to leave the mansion. He heads to the crisis hotline after talking to a dazed Jonathan and Chloe. As she runs from Adam, Lana calls Clark. While they're on the phone, a bolt of lightning hits the telephone poll causing it to crash on some small pieces of meteor rock... the phone goes dead. Clark rushes out side and lifts the poll, the separation from the rock restores the call and Clark is able to hear where Lana is, he rushes off just as Adam shoots. Adam watches as Clark dashes in front of Lana and takes the bullet. Lana is knocked down and doesn't see it happen. When Clark gets to Adam, he's dying and tells Clark what he saw and that he now knows why Lionel is so interested in him. Before he dies, Adam warns Clark about Lionel, saying he won't be able to escape him forever.

The detectives are arresting Lex when the FBI shows up. Lex tells them he'll cut them a deal. Give him immunity and he'll help them take down Lionel. While the FBI mulls over the decision, Lionel talks with Dr. Bergin and tells him he wants him to continue the serum research. Bergin tells him it will take time... Lionel doesn't have time; he's been diagnosed with a unique liver disease and is running out of time. Later that night Lionel listens to opera music and reads his medical report. His disease is terminal... After reading the report, Lionel grabs a gun and points it at his head...

RECAP:
O, glory be! But before we can all go celebrate, it turns out she wasn't shot. Or was she? Clark receives a call at a teen crisis center and it's from Lana, who’s being chased by a gunperson and getting gunned down. Clark, Chloe, and Lana investigate the recorded phone call and discover that the call came from the future. (In Spanish: "El futooooroooo!") Now it's a race against time to make sure that the shooting never happens. Meanwhile, the Metron Labs lab is shut down by Papa Luthor after Lex confronts him about it. That leaves Poor Man's Wes Bentley in a rough spot with his life-saving meds, so he goes nuts and escapes by killing everyone there, including Dr. Poonie Tang. He goes to find the last bit of serum he had hidden, which involves kidnapping Lana and shooting her, thus fulfilling the Phone Call Prophecy. Clark, of course, intervenes with fate, taking the bullet for Lana as PM'sWB dies. Clark took a bullet for Lana? Dumb-*ss. Lex's new feud with Papa Luthor lands him in a police investigation over the Metron Lab massacre (until he pulls some strings to get the FBI to bail him out of the jam). And in a totally unforeseen plot twist, Papa Luthor reveals to us (but not to Lex) that he is dying of a rare liver problem. That's why he's getting all this research done! In the last, creepy scene, he puts a gun to his mouth. We go to blackout before we can see if he actually pulled the trigger. Bentley has been keeping a diary on Lana, but before she can kick him out, he disappears. Before Lana and Lex can spring into action to look for him, we discover that Papa Luthor is behind PM'sWB's weird medical risen-from-the-dead condition, and that Papa was using PM'sWB to get to know Lana and spy on Clark. When he fails in that mission, Papa is ready to withhold medicine and let the dude die. Sucks to be Poor Man's Wes Bentley.

REVIEW
Sheriff Adams: If I had an answer to half the whys in this town, i'd have myself a best-seller on my hands.

Lionel (to Lex): Resisitating the dead... I think your creative ideas are being wasted here at LutorCorp.

Lex (to Lionel): I don't want to shut it down, I want to be put in charge.

Clark (to Lex): You don't want anything to happen to Lana. I know you don't. Please!

Lex: It's a secure lab, you'll never be able to get in ther.
Clark: Not without you.

Lionel: Lex, give me some credit. If I had anything to do with what happened I wouldn't be so sloppy.

Lex (to Lionel): Clean up your own mess!

Chloe: It's like the call you received came out of thin air.
Clark: Or another time zone.

Clark: Lana had nothing to do with it.
Sheriff Adams: Unless Miss Lang has grown several inches and developed an affinity for plaid, I suggest you pipe down.

Jonathan: Don't worry Lana. I won't let anything happen to you.

Adam (to Clark): Now I know why Lionel sent me... I guess I found out... a little too late.

Lex (Detective Kabe): You and I both know i'm just the consolation prize... i'll help you bring down my father.

Lionel: I have been diagnosed with a rare form of liver disease.

Lana (to Clark): How did you get from the hotline to the storage facility in a split second?

Clark: Why'd you call me instead of the police?
Lana: Because I knew you'd be there.

Not only does Kryptonite give strange powers to people, soup up cars, and make one hell of an explosive additive, it now can send phone calls back in time. Where do I get me some of that?

At the Teen Crisis Hotline, Clark gets a call from Lana in which she screams for help and then gets shot. But when he speeds off and finds her, she’s fine. With some investigation and the help of Chloe, they figure out that the call must have come from the future, and also that Adam was the one who shot Lana. They try to protect her by having her hide out at the Kent farm, but everything, including a thunderstorm and a basketball game on the radio, starts to happen the way it did leading up to the phone call.

Meanwhile, Clark and Lex go to check out the Metron Lab where Adam is being held, but he’s escaped and everyone has been murdered, including Dr. Teng. Lionel wanted to shut down the lab and leave Adam without any serum, so he goes looking for the supply he kept himself, which Lana moved when she cleaned out his apartment.

While Clark and Lex get held for questioning at the mansion by Metropolis detectives, Adam kidnaps Chloe and finds out where Lana is. He goes to the Kent farm, knocks out Jonathan and steals his shotgun, then makes Lana take him to the storage unit where his stuff is. But once there, he can’t find the serum, and he wants to kill Lana, who escapes and calls Clark, who managed to get away from the cops and went back to the Crisis Hotline center. But the phone call gets cut off when lightning hits knocks down the telephone pole outside and it falls into a Kryptonite-filled puddle of water. Clark lifts the pole out, Lana tells him where she is, and he manages to stop the bullet just before it reaches Lana. Adam dies right after telling Clark he was sent by Lionel to spy on him and now he knows why. Back at Luthorcorp, Lionel hires a new scientist to work on the project and tells him he doesn’t have much time because of a rare liver disease, and later sticks a gun to his head as the show comes to an end. NEWS & NOTES:
This episode was aired with a 'parental discretion advised' warning at the beginning.

How does Lana know that Clark was at the crisis hotline center the second time around and then conclude he got to her so quickly? He'd already established with her that he was acting on the original telephone call.

The first time Clark gets the phone call from Lana at the crisis center, how come no one wonders how he got to Lana at the Talon so fast?
